An Air Expanding Shaft is a mechanical shaft used for handling, winding, and unwinding rolls of materials such as paper, film, foil, textile, or plastic. It features an expandable gripping mechanism that securely holds the core (typically a cardboard or steel core) when air pressure is applied.

By inflating an internal bladder, expandable lugs or leaves extend outward to grip the inner diameter of the core. When air is released, the lugs retract, allowing easy removal of the shaft from the core. This makes air shafts ideal for high-speed converting, slitting, printing, and rewinding applications.
